Ven. Sogan Rinpoche's 2016 animal release
Below is a letter from Sogan Rinpoche written at the successful conclusion of the animal release and further details about the release
May 31, 2016
My kind and considerate dharma friends, this year we raised and I received a total of INR 369,383 for the liberation of animals otherwise destined for the butchers. As you are aware I
previously thought to save animals in India on the Vesak full moon day but this plan didn’t work out.
Therefore I converted the money into USD and wire the total $5,500 to Tibet where it was converted into Chinese Yuan, RMB. Where, I’m pleased to inform you, I have sent several monks along with my brother Guru to Amdo, Ngawa District and asked them to use the funds to ransom the lives of birds and fowl from the the Chinese market. The birds will be cared for at Segon Thupten Chokgyal Ling Monastery, the Rhinoceros Hermitage, where the hunting, capture and eating of birds is forbidden.
On the 25th day of the fourth month of the lunar calendar, 2016, the dakini day: 13 doves, 32 gray ducks, and 330 chickens. In all 375 birds and fowl were saved at a cost of RMB 23,600. To keep and feed them will cost and extra RMB 14,000. Making to a total of RMB 37,600. Kindly see the attached pictures taken during the liberation.
I’d like to thank you for your kindness and generosity during this years ‘Ransoming the Lives of Animals’ and ask you to join me in whole-heartedly rejoicing in our endeavors and dedicating the merit to the welfare of all beings.
With best wishes, Sogan Rinpoche
